Dr. Seuss
My Many Colored Days read aloud
To improve the student's fluency, we do quite a bit of read aloud. Students enjoy them and it's a great way to monitor their fluency levels. One day we read a Dr. Seuss book and I provided the students with whisker to make the read aloud a fun activity. Another day, the students took turns reading a part in a reader theater format. This also helped their fluency because they get to practice reading and hearing others read. Students really start to enjoy this activity when we use funny voices as we read.
The students benefit from these types of reading because struggling readers get to hear how words are pronounced before having to read them and also I try to pair lower students with a higher level student for assistants. The students have should an increase in interest reading aloud because of the fun and exciting ways we practice reading.
