5.8 Demonstrate research-basedinstructional practices to facilitate students' monitoring and self-correcting in reading. 

Each student monitors their reading growth by keeping a Sight Word chart. Most of the students in this class are below grade level and struggle to read sight words. With the students reading level being very low, most of the students were very discouraged about reading. Once we started these charts, students saw their success and started to build their self-esteem when it comes to reading and found encouragement to keep trying.

 

I like being able to pull a student’s chart and see just where they are. This also offers a great way to make sure students are continuing to move forward with their reading.
