Science Data and Analysis

The subject I used for my science data and analysis was on the butterfly life cycle. The class is learning about different animals and their life cycles and butterflied happened to be the first life cycle. The student's pre and posttest contained questions that asked the scientific wording and order of the life cycle of a butterfly. Students did express they have some background on the cycle already, which may have played a role in students not increasing their score on the post test.

The lesson that seemed to be the toughest for me to teach was the butterfly life cycle for science. Chart 1.1 shows that the majority of the class either showed no growth or actually decreased. This was the first lesson I used for this assignment and was the biggest eye opener for myself. Seeing so many students not show gain alarmed me to review my teaching strategies and methods. Even though a lot of students showed little to no gain, the class average was still increased as shown in chart 1.1.

After seeing the results graphed and realize how little of an impact my lesson had on their knowledge of the butterfly life cycle, I decided to review more in depth of the cycle. The students were not retested, but I do feel the students benefited from continuing the lesson and offering more indepth material. I felt as though the graph shows little growth because I taught students things they already knew about the butterfly life cycle.
