5.9 Demonstrate research-based comprehension instructional practices for developing students' higher order thinking to enhance comprehension.
Literacy Fair
Placed 1st within grade level
To develop students' higher order thinking skills, the students were arranged in small groups and completed a literacy board on a story of their choice. In these artifacts, students read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and then worked as a group to arrange important events from the story on their board. This aimed to enhance students' high order thinking because they worked hands on and had to arrange the elements of a story on their own. Each student had a part of the board they were in charge of and had to say what should be written and how they wanted the final piece to look. All groups used a different thinking map to represent their story and used the map as their main focus showing great higher order thinking.
